?Staying Away from Bad Traffic

By: Theo McLanahan

A large amount of traffic to your website is not always directly reflected in the amount of products or services your website sells. You need the right kind of traffic to your website, which means attracting a targeted group of people that are most likely to become your customers.

If you do a search on the Internet for ways to increase traffic to your site, you will find websites that sell software or monthly membership packages that promise to bring traffic to your site. Don't be fooled by these costly gimmicks. There are many ways you can increase traffic to your site for free.

Companies that are paid to boost traffic do so in part by paying individuals to surf the Internet. These people simply log onto a website and their computers display various websites automatically, surfing the web all on their own.

The truth is that the person whose computer is auto-surfing the net might not even be looking at their screen while it does so. Such visitors will create more traffic for your website, but this in no way means that you will get more paying customers too.

Offering free products or services is another common source of bad traffic. Many of the people who will visit your site are probably only trying to get something for free and thus will not have a reason to return to your website in the future. Free offers can be used effectively, though. For example, you could offer a free special report with the purchase of an ebook. Promotions of this nature will help you build your customer base.

Trading links and participating in banner exchanges may sound good in theory, but again, if targeted traffic isn't coming in, your sales won't be affected. Remember, traffic doesn't equal customers.

If your website provides information on babies, exchanging links with a sport fishing website is not sensible. Whatever you do to boost website traffic, keep in mind that you have a target audience and work to appeal to them. Update your website with information and content that will attract the right kind of visitor, one who will become your customer.

People who visit your website will come back in an effort to read and learn more when they realize that your website is providing the highest quality content. You are sure to gain new customers as such good traffic builds up on your site.
